If you believe crafts are only for girls you’re probably associating it to things like crochet, knitting or scrapbooking. However, there is a wide number of other craft works which boys could be interested to perform.
It doesn’t mean a boy can’t do knitting or crochet but usually those hobbies are considered to be more feminine. Boys tend to look for crafts where they can put their creativity to work on a more physical way. Here are some crafts that usually are more appealing to boys:
Woodworking:
most of the girls wouldn’t enjoy sweating and being, covered with dust, right? But, on the other hand, a boy may absolutely love it! Woodworking requires getting hands dirty and some physical strength what presents this activity to a boy as a “job for men”. It doesn’t mean girls can’t do it, I personally know a few ladies who are incredible carpenters, but we have to agree that woodworking sounds much more boyish than pottery or tricot.
Another reason for a boy to get stared on woodworking is the number of possibilities it has. He can start with the simples whittling and end up making musical instruments, sculptures, furniture or even boats! Those are all examples of woodworking although each one of those activities is called by a specific name.
Whittling is a type of sculpture technique usually done on soft wood to create animal figurines. For beginners we recommend the Balsa wood which is soft and easy to handle. All you need to perform this sort of woodworking is the wood and a set of whittling knives. Make sure you have your knives and other carving tools always sharp; it will make your job a lot of easier. Moreover, remember that the harder is the wood kind you pick, more effort you will have to put on it to get it sculpted.
Complex woodworking will require the use of electric tools such as jigsaws and drills to give wood the wanted shape. For this sort of work is better to previously plan what you want to do since you will need to be much more careful while doing it. For design objects and furniture pieces, you will probably]y need to spend more money on good quality wood, and it would be a shame to have to dispose it if something goes wrong as a result of lack of projecting.
Just in the sake of curiosity, although knitting and crochet are considered a girly craft work some footballers enjoy doing it as a relaxation method. You can even find auctions selling their work for charity. Now, who would call a football player a sissy because of his hobby?
Another example of craft just perfect for men is blacksmithing. It demands powerful muscles, lots of sweating and courage to handle the igneous iron. Can you imaging a girl doing something like that?
Boys are inclined to choose physically challenging craft activities, but it’s not a rule. They can also pick lighter creative projects as a hobby or as a way to have some relaxation. Whatever they decide to do, the main point is: crafting is a boy’s thing, too.
