Weight Loss: Control Yourself When it Comes To Takeout Menus

by Joel Riley

If you’re the average person on a diet, then you’ve experienced times where you fall off the diet wagon and succumb to the many temptations in your daily life. It’s all too easy to be tempted by advertisements of the juicy hamburgers so perfectly put together and just waiting for you to order them.

The ads are designed to suggest to us that we need a candy bar, we need that value meal, we need that ice cream, and we need that greasy, cheesy pizza. And if you aren’t careful you can blow your daily caloric allotment in one sitting. Oh the joys of advertising!

It may seem like the only answer to this situation is to stay away from fast food and not watch television commercials for the rest of your life, but that’s not realistic. There are some other ways to keep your willpower intact when you do go to places that have tempting images of diet-killing foods.

Keep in mind that there is no truth in advertising at least when it comes to food. When was the last time your double cheese burger had the fresh fixings it does on TV?? It never does and after it’s mashed around in the bag, it’s hardly edible after that, the joy of the burger is gone.

Get it your way - Don’t be afraid to ask for what you want or don’t want. If you decide you need a burger, then order it with no cheese or mayo as an open-faced sandwich. A regular hamburger can satisfy your hunger and will have less fat.

If you use the drive-through, chances are you won’t be as tempted as you are if you go inside. There are sights, sounds and smells that act as a mental stimulation and encourage us to sit and gorge on food. If we drive through and come home and eat, chances are we probably aren’t going to even eat everything we bought.

Drive throughs are also helpful when the smell of the fries boiling in oil tempts you to order the biggest size available. When you go through the drive through, the smell isn’t as apparent as it is inside.

You can also save yourself the extra temptation by using a delivery service. You only order what you want and aren’t tempted to veer towards something else. You only get so much food to and you can’t go back again and again.

Sometimes a little extra money spent on convenience can be a good thing. It can keep you far away from the temptation that may make you falter. It’s hard to say no to all the goodies at our disposal, however if we avoid certain situations we may be able to prevent falling off the diet wagon.
