Using an elliptical trainer is a great way to do low impact exercise if you have a knee, back or hip injury. Such injuries limit the type of exercises that you can perform and rule out most high impact exercises such as jogging or running.

This can be frustrating if you like this type of exercise for health & fitness or believe that these exercises give you a good workout. While running and jogging certainly give you a good cardio workout they are not the only ways.

When you learn how to use this exercise machine, you will increase your stamina, burn more calories, maximize your workout, and have a good cardiovascular workout without hurting yourself, by learning how to use an elliptical trainer.

Moving Your Legs:

An elliptical trainer involves moving your legs properly. Learning how to use this machine properly means achieving the right stride. Having too long a stride is uncomfortable and you will not enjoy your workout. On the other hand having too short a stride will feel just as uncomfortable as well.

You may abandon this workout, if you feel this is not for you, or you are not burning the calories you want in order to lose weight. Really give it a chance. Your stride should feel natural, as if you are walking.

What to Do with Your Arms:

Some machines offer you a total body workout by connecting the handles with the foot pedals, as your arms move in sync with your feet. Your upper body is involved, by moving your arms when you are learning how to use an elliptical trainer.

When beginning to use an elliptical trainer, by holding on to the handlebars and not moving them is another way to deal with your arms. If you are not confident with your balance, when using this machine. If you were running that is way you should move your arms. This builds your core muscles, burns the most calories, and builds up your balance ability.

Set yourself A Higher Goal:

You need to challenge yourself just as you would with any type of workout. When learning how to use an elliptical trainer make sure that you vary the speed. Another thing that you should keep an eye on is the resistance levels. Start slowly with resistance but you should aim to increase it with each workout.
