Podiatry Supplies And Tools - Common Uses By Podiatrists

by C.J. Lang

Podiatrists, just like hospitals, use many different podiatry supplies in the course of their practice. Just one of the many examples would be the ever popular Gauze Sponge. More recently, the internet is now bringing these items to the Podiatrist’s office in a much more cost effective way. In the past, most podiatry supplies were obtained with a lengthy and inefficient phone order.

The United States has the highest number of licensed Podiatrists in the world. To meet this increased demand for the fast delivery of podiatry supplies, the medical supply industry as a whole is rapidly adjusting to better serve their clients.

A lot of people most likely have never been to visit a Podiatrist and many of them, when they do end up going, don’t have the foggiest idea of what these a Podiatrist does. A Podiatrist treats Achilles tendonitis, pain in the ankle and arch, arthritis in the foot and lower limbs, the common athlete’s foot, chiblains, blisters, corns and calluses on the toes and feet, the painful condition known as gout, pain in the heels, toenails that are ingrown, a condition known as Morton’s toe, toes that overlap, flat feet, sesamoidtis, painful shin splints, a stress fracture, overly sweaty feet, toe warts, pain in the lower back and cracked, dry heels.

What Does A Podiatrist Do Exactly?

Your Podiatrist’s expertise lies in the diagnosis, treatment and ongoing assessment of many disorders that affect the feet and lower limbs. Most of us, if we’re fortunate enough to live a long life, will have some kind of foot or lower limb problem before we leave this world. Though one could argue that living long enough to have a foot problem is not fortunate at all.

State Registration

To practice Podiatry, you must be registered with the state and have successfully completed a three year, full time, degree course. Once the course has successfully been completed, you will now own a Bachelor of Science degree and be eligible for state registration.

Some Podiatry Supplies - The Callus Plane

This Podiatry instrument is used to maintain the desired length of the toenails. In addition, the Podiatrist uses it to cut out ingrown toenails. To avoid getting ingrown toenails, cut them straight across, not in a curved shape. Ingrown toenails are usually caused by stubbing a toe or shoes that do not fit correctly.

Podiatry Supplies - The Medical Burr Sanitizer

This electric file/burr only files down the top of the toenail. It also rubs away hard, dead skin on the toes, heels, and balls of the feet.

There are many different types of podiatry supplies that help keep up with the tasks of cleanliness in the lower extremities. One good example is the unique vacuum cleaner, and of course it’s attachments, to get rid of the debris from treating a patient’s feet. Much of this debris comes in the form of calluses or foot blisters that have been filed away by the Podiatrist.
