Hangover remedies that claim to cure any hangover unfortunately often invite people to drink more alcohol than they should. Over the years, untold numbers of cures for a hangover have been devised but the best one of all is to refuse a drink. Hangover cures and remedies have a tough job because a hangover has many areas that cause distress, the biggest one being dehydration.
Due to the action of impurities within the drink itself, some alcoholic beverages give worse hangovers than others. How quickly you become drunk is also often down the level of these impurities and just how severe the hangover will be. For instance the white (vodka, gin etc) spirits have less impurities than the colored ones (whisky and cognac) as they have been filtered.
However, the real reason we have hangovers and strive for perfect hangover remedies is because we simply drink too much. This is often the case when we drink a great deal in a short space of time or maybe we drink on an empty stomach, but at the end of the day, no one made us do this. It is well known that if you drink slowly, the body is able to process the alcohol and other toxins before they get to a level that gets us drunk. As a consequence the world has become full of hangover remedies, some of which are quite ludicrous and talking about cures for a hangover has become a common topic in bars around the world. But finding an effective cure for a hangover is still being sought, apart from not drinking of course.
Re-hydrating your body before you sleep is an easy and free cure for a hangover but how many people do this before they retire and prevent the hangover next morning? A quick and easy hangover remedy is part prevention and part hangover cure and involves a couple of headache pills with a large glass of mineral water before bed and then another large glass, this time of orange juice, when you get up the following morning. This can work on many occasions but there is no cure for a hangover that works that well as you get older.
Apparently, bananas are a good cure for a hangover and a new hangover tip on the block because they contain a number of minerals lost during drinking, including potassium and fructose. Bananas also have two other ingredients that help with hangovers; there is an antacid to help with the nausea and magnesium to help with the bad headache.
There are still those hardened souls that believe that drinking more alcohol the following day in the form of a ‘Bloody Mary’ is a cure for a hangover but the jury is still out on this one. Probably being strong and sober enough to say ‘No’ is the best of the hangover remedies currently available!
