Innovative Skincare: Why Chocolate is a Mom’s Best Friend!

by Vivienne Myatt

Skincare products can be expensive at the best of times, so why not make innovative skincare products from your own kitchen and for a fraction of the price. Things like honey, oatmeal, cream and even chocolate can be used, but keep it away from hungry little mouths or you won’t have any left for your skin.

It is true you can use chocolate! It is becoming one of the most popular beauty regimes available today. As natural remedies for skin care go, it is one of the better ones, as it is good for softening the skin and like when you eat it releases serotonin, which makes you happy! Just like in the beauty salons, you too can massage chocolate into the skin, making you feel rejuvenated and relaxed, but be careful with the amount of chocolate you buy.

Most people will tell you that chocolate is bad for you; well they don’t know what they are talking about. Okay if you eat to much of it you will get fat, but it has a more beneficial use for your skin. Now you can buy chocolate without the guilt. Cocoa is the ingredient you really want and the stronger the better, as cocoa contains a lot of antioxidants.

Now let’s take a look at how you use the chocolate in recipes, to create natural remedies for skin care. What you need to do is mix 4 tablespoons of cocoa (not strictly chocolate I know, but when mixed with the other bits, it is good enough to eat), 3 tablespoons of honey (the runny variety), 2 tablespoons of thick cream (which can be sour cream) and a level tablespoon of oatmeal, now you are ready.

Once the mixture is made, don’t eat all of it, you will need to massage it into and around your face. Then all you have to do is lay back and make sure that all pets, children and anything else with a tongue is nowhere around you for the next twenty minutes. After this time, if you are tempted to eat the mixture - don’t! Just wash it off with lukewarm water and feel the benefits.

For the next twenty minutes you can relax, with the recipe applied to your face, the scent of the recipe will even help you do this. Just make sure the kids and any pets aren’t around or they’ll be licking your face and you won’t get the benefits. So the oatmeal exfoliates as you rub the mixture onto your face, the honey unclogs pores and gives a deep cleanse and the cocoa soothes, moisturizes and makes you feel good, because of the release of serotonin.

What sweet bliss! Finish your rest off with a warm water facial and witness the results that you have been paying hand over fist for, before falling to the temptation of chocolate. All in a good cause of course, and you’ll look good enough to eat! Now you are with the people in the know, on what else you can do with chocolate and other ingredients from your kitchen. You too can have plenty of your own homemade innovative skincare products.

It’s totally down to you, as to what you say to your friends, when they see you buying so much chocolate or cocoa powder, but why not let them in on the fact that you have found one of the best natural remedies for skin care. Or just let them look for their own innovative skincare recipes.
