Myths and Facts about Acne

by Michael Jans

Myth #1 — Oily skin doesn’t need a moisturizer - Wrong!

All skin, even oily skin, needs a moisturizer. Your body produces oil to keep your skin supple and healthy. If you have very oily skin then the pores in your skin producing the oil are working overtime which can happen for a lot of different reasons.

If you wash your face a lot and are constantly stripping your face of its natural oils without using moisturizer, you might actually be making the problem worse!

Myth #2 — You need prescription medications to control acne - Wrong!

If you are scared of going to the doctor then you need not get worried because there are many other solutions for acne so that you need not go to doctor’s office. There are drugs stores that offer a huge variety of simple results ranging from masks to scrubs to astringents.

Also you can use the homemade remedies and holistic products to get cure form the acne. Keeping your skin clean and healthy may be all you need to ward off mild to moderate acne.

Myth #3 - Acne treatments aren’t cheap — Wrong!

Some of the best acne treatments are actually free! Using a wet hot towel to open your pores before you wash your face can help tremendously. You can also wash your face right after a shower to get the same results. The hot water helps open up your pores which makes it a lot easier to get rid of oil and dirt. Also you don’t necessarily need an expensive soap and moisturizer to treat acne either. The cheaper stuff can work just as well as the expensive stuff. I have found that the two products I like best cost only $11 - for BOTH of them.

Myth #4 - Acne is only a problem for teens, not adults — Wrong!

Generally the acne problem occurs to adults and teenagers. It is usually because of the teenagers are usually attributed to hormonal changes and for the adults this problem occurs mainly due to the chemicals and diet, not just the hormones. Just keep in mind that there are lots of ways to treat acne which really work, so don’t give up your hopes!

Myth #5 - Tanning will get rid of your acne — Wrong!

While tanning does change the color and texture of your skin, it does NOT get rid of acne. Tan skin is darker in color and thicker than untanned skin, making the acne a lot harder to see. Tanning or spending too much time in the sun will also dry your skin out (think of a peeling sunburn!) which might also help dry out your acne - but it won’t get rid of it! Aside from not being a good treatment for acne, tanning also damages your skin and may cause you even worse problems down the road.
