Despite having almost similar terms, a corset and a corset top are different from each other. A corset top is an updated version of a corset and is not used as an undergarment only. This piece of clothing can be worn similar to a shirt and can be purchased in any lingerie shop. Though a corset top might have a laced-up back and boning similar to a corset, it does not significantly affect the figure of its wearer.
Corset tops can be bought in small, medium, large, and plus sizes. Corset tops are not custom fitted by a corsetry tailor as they don\’t need to fit that tightly. The wearer\’s measurements are not taken, unlike with the traditional corset.
The only problem with a corset top is that its size may not fit well with the wearer\’s body measurements. It may fit well on the breast area but not on the waistline. Or, it may fit well on the waistline but the breast space will be too small. If the wearer\’s body isn\’t toned, cellulite or fat may bulge.
Many ladies like wearing a corset top because it maximizes their assets similar to a corset, but without the discomfort and confinement. Though they won’t look good on everyone, corset tops are still manufactured for everybody to enjoy.
