We have all gone through the computer error messages ordeal. You know the one where you get all nervous, and your heart almost stops because you see this fatal error, or illegal error message. Who ever decided to call these messages “fatal” or “illegal?” Is someone going to die? Is the computer going to up and die because you turned it on? Some people are so afraid of these messages, the only thing they can think of to do is to turn the machine off and call the tech, and unbeknownst to them, this is probably what fixes the problem. There are over 20,000 different computer error messages on windows systems, and its virtually impossible to understand what all of them mean.
What significance does the error messages like “Cannot delete tmp 164_5.tmp: not enough free disc space” hold? This has no significance at all. Sometimes, the computer insists you on deleting some files, and won’t let you delete the files when you do. What a strange situation!
There is a message “An illegal operation has been performed by the program which will now shut down. Contact the program provider, if it continues”. I don’t even remember the exact number of time I have encountered this message. This one message tests the nerves of the user. You may be wondering if the people call the program provider in such a case. The answer is a simple “NO”. The program vendors are not helpful in these cases. Letting the vendor know about the error message is just the same as letting Santa know about your wish list.
What can be Done?
Most of these problematic messages could be dealt with by rebooting the computer or by turning it off and then turning it on. So, unless you are software engineer or have a good knowledge of computer, then you don’t need to bother about these messages.
There is nothing to worry about each and every error messages that you get, but there are a few messages which you should not sideline and get immediate help when you encounter them.
Windows perfection error - this message occur whenever there is a VXD which corresponds to the virtual device driver problem. Probably the one thing that you can do is restart your computer, put it in safe mode, remove and then again add the problem causing device driver. Problems in registry or windows also cause this problem. If the registry catches an error, then it is recommended to download a registry utility program which cleans the registry.
KERNEL32.DLL - Poor Kernel32 receives a lot of flack and there is just no hope for it. The problem is that the KERNEL32.DLL file deals with a lot of different processes. When you have a Kernel32 problem, you might have damaged files, bad registry entries, problems with the microprocessor, bad software, corrupt drivers, a virus, and sometimes even low hard drive disk space. See the Kernel32.DLL message could be any number of things. Sometimes even hardware trouble will cause this error message. For instance, you will get a KERNEL32.DLL message if your power supply is failing, or if your micro processor is overheating. Your first option in trying to fix this problem is to use a registry cleaner and see if the problem doesn’t lie therein.
Blue Screen Errors - These are the biggest of the problems and in this case, the computer does not bother to display an error message to inform you. All you get is the big blue screen, which means that you have to take a sudden action. Sometimes the blue screen displays a message “wait for the program to start or else press ctrl-alt-del to restart the computer”. Rebooting the computer helps in many cases as you cannot get the program back. The computer may get back to normal once you reboot. Some of the times, the blue screen displays that you need to plug back a device which has been unplugged by you. You may reboot in case windows not turning up. It is matter of concern when the blue screen keeps on appearing, and you must call a service person if there is a hardware problem.
In the End
Rebooting the computer only helps in most of the cases. There are always exceptions and there are cases when there have been problems in registry files and a registry utility cleaner solves the problem. It is important for you to get used to the meaning of error messages and summon a service technician to see what the problem actually is.
