Being an electrician is no easy job. It requires very tedious and long training. Undergoing training for electricians takes about three to four years. Duties of Substation Electricians
Substation engineers are in charge of maintaining and running electrical substations. It is their job to handle and manipulate lots of electrical equipment. Equipment like electric relay devices, control cables, high-voltage cables, communication equipment, power transformers, station batteries and other equipment associated with the power substation is handled by these electricians.
Because they usually work high energy lines and equipment, and since they usually work outdoors in tough conditions, it pays to be physically fit hen one is a substation electrician. They must also abide by the basic safety rules learned in training. To be a qualified substation electrician, you must have satisfactory results from their training program and must have knowledge of electrical theory. They must also have four years of related work or apprenticeship in power plants, substations or other related duties.
It is very important that they are familiar with the safety precautions in each and every substation or plant that they work in. It is of course expected that they have mastery in the installation, maintenance and operation of basic substation equipment.
Of course all this would mean a lot less if the electrician did not have the means to express him or herself. Hence excellent communication skills are an advantage. And since several people depend on his performance, it is also important that the engineer exhibits good leadership skills to go along with the rest of the package.
